Take a super break at Molly's Souper
Corruption, backroom deals, FBI raids - what's next for Upland?
In the midst of all the drama/soap opera, take some time and enjoy the serenity of Molly's Souper, near the mayor's office (scene of the FBI raid).
Nestled on a tree-lined street at the corner of First and D streets is the former historic house that was first converted to a restaurant in 1972.
The decor features many old-fashioned touches, with oak furniture, flowered wallpaper, framed vintage citrus labels on the wall and cute knickknacks adding to the charm.
There is indoor and outdoor dining, with a special area for guests who bring their four-legged friends. The outside seating area is the perfect spot for brunch or lunch with friends on a sunny day. There is plenty of shade with umbrellas and trees covering the tables.
But it was a bit chilly and cloudy out on this day, so indoor seating was necessary.
The restaurant serves breakfast (all day) and lunch with a nice array of pancakes (even apple and strawberry), breakfast specials, egg dishes, omelettes, breakfast sides, salads, lunch specials, plus a doggie menu for the canine visitors.
Lunch specials are served with red cabbage slaw or a cup of soup and start at $5.75 for a grilled cheese sandwich. Other lunch
specials are chili size, hot turkey dip with cheese, and patty melt, to name a few.
The menu features a half-sandwich served with a cup of soup and includes apple crisp for $8.25.Sandwich choices are tuna, turkey, beef, ham or egg salad. Soup choice was tortellini, navy bean or chicken and rice.
I ordered the half a tuna sandwich with a cup of tortellini soup. The homemade soup was creamy with bits of vegetables and noodles. The sandwich featured a large scoop of tuna, slice of tomato and lettuce on white bread with mayonnaise.
The apple crisp was yummy - warm and covered with whipped cream. The perfect way to finish lunch.
The staff at Molly's was great, stopping by to see if I was doing OK, and if I wanted anything else.
Molly's Souper is a great little place to get away from it all and enjoy a meal with family, friends or a canine buddy.
